Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island known as West Island. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar of its purpose. They often believe it's an island to the west of Montreal However, it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the two cities that are Lachine and West. The West Island is frequently referred to as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time in the city was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. At the beginning of her life she wanted to be the next big thing in her career, but a sudden expansion of her body made it impossible. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. When I grew out of my male dancers, I decided to quit. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in the case of Brugel it was a suggestion from her teacher in drama. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to take on a part in the school's annual production. Following a trial, she ended up as the main character in Anne of Green Gables. She was given a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program which she completed in 2000 with a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Through the years since, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions across both small and large screens, attracting the greatest media attention after she was offered the character as Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian actress in the season 1 which was viewed only at times.
